more florida shenanigans, we have a video of a romney volunteer down there saying that president obama is a muslim. it was picked up by an answering machine after the volunteer didn't hang up before moving on to her next call. the clip aired in tampa on a radio station, wmmf. nbc news hasn't independently authenticated the audio. >> you don't want obama. you really don't want obama because he'll get rid of your medicare. you might as well say good-bye to it. yeah, and, i don't know if you've done any research on obama or not, but eggs a muslim. >> well, he is a muslim. that's push polling. you pretend to be polling and all you're doing is putting out the word the guy is a communist. >> would you vote for someone who believes in communist. we're taking a survey. we've been talking about this for a couple years. for some reason the republican party and their conservative allies can't get away from describing obama as muslim, not born here, not believing in america. >> i know, i know, i know this is what they do. the head of florida's gop where the call appears to originate told "the st.

job growth may have more to do with slow downs in europe and asia than anything washington does. the only thing they can do is instill confidence in consumers who feel comfortable spending their moneys thereby creating demands and jobs. mitt romney after making a ridiculous claim to create 12 million jobs in four years argues the way he's going to tut taxes without creating a deficit is people will be working and spending the money they're not paying in taxes. it could happen. i could also become as tall and handsome as you are, richard, but i don't go around promising to do so. how much can politicians do to create jobs? i guess they can create stability and an expectation of what is going to happen. richard, what do you think? >> i'm glad you asked. politicians do not, cannot, and will not create jobs. we agree on that. we also agree on the fact that they create an environment that allows the private sector, men and women who start businesses, to actually go out and create the jobs that we all seek. but here's the important point. there is a no difference -- a big difference th

and will deliver a plan that has impact on middle class americans, that will bring down taxes for all americans. period. there's only one candidate that's actually talking about raising taxes and there's another candidate, the romney ryan ticket, that will cut taxes for all americans. so i think as we go into this, we'll hear a lot more of that. obviously at the debate and this is the next phase f that campaign. >> mitt romney leads according to our poll, on unemployment and the deficit. let me ask you this, ben, because one thing our viewers may assume is that democratic base is now energized and the convention is now partly responsible for that. rece recently, jim -- our new poll, how do you feel strength of support, 72% of voters are strongly excited. that's a virtual tie and extremely or very enthusiastic about voting in november, 65% of republicans. 64% of democrats. does that worry you? in '08, part of the reason the president won was his people were way more enthusiastic than john mccain's. >> we heard enthusiasm on the republicans side last year and now it's down to turn out.

i think you do have to pull that down a little bit. i do believe that mitt romney has not demonstrated that he's agile. he's not kind of light on his feet. so the idea that if you had a tough spot in a debate, whether the moderator pushed or obama pushed and could romney not talking from zingers that he's rehearsed, not talking from talking points, be agile enough to say i can answer these questions because these are my convictions. i think romney's biggest problem is a lack of conviction. he kind of operates and looks as if he's wearing someone else's skin and he's talking using someone else's beliefs. >> ross, what do you make of that? i think barack obama definitely the last time he did this four years ago, he showed flashes of a temper. which if i was in the romney camp, i would be just keep goading him. i'm sure that's what they are trying to calm down in the obama camp, don't lose your temper. romney is pretty cool. i watched him under fire in the republican nominee debates. he was a pretty cool customer. obama can get rattled. >
